Recognizing the Big Causes of Diabetes

During one time medical professionals were under the impression nothing could be done for diabetes. They thought there was nothing a person could do to keep the disease from taking hold. Now we are more aware. Now we realize there are some causes of diabetes that are totally within out manageability. Now we realize diabetes can occur because of environmental factors and personal decisions. While Type 1 diabetes normally occurs because of things that are not entirely in your control, Type 2 diabetes generally occurs because of your personal decisions. Here are some of the root causes of diabetes and what you can do about them.

Drinking heavily is not preferrable. Older men should avoid excessive alcohol consumption as it can lead to diabetes. The heavy fat and empty calories that comes from alcohol affects all the different parts of your body. Liver function is not the only body part affected by alcohol. Alcohol can also raise your cholesterol levels. Long term, heavy drinking can also raise blood pressure levels and cause diabetes. A glass or two of wine throughout the week is not harmful. A few hours of drinking everynight can be harmful to your body.

Treatment should be sought if you have a problem with heavy drinking.

Pregnancy is one of the causes of diabetes. Gestational diabetes is very common in pregnant women.

This is a condition that will only last a short while and can be handled through diet. Women who have babies that weigh above nine pounds are also more likely to come down with diabetes that those who have babies under nine pounds. Sadly, there is little that can be done to limit the weight of your baby (and babies are now usually being born heavier and heavier every day). All pregnant women have testing done for gestational diabetes, so they won't have to worry about whether or not they may become afflicted with it and not knowing it. Your medical professional will help you decide a way to manage the disease if it takes place while you are pregnant.

Are a lot of the foods you consume, high in fat? Stop that! Diets that contain a lot of fat are a major cause of diabetes. This is one of several reasons your doctor will instruct you to get rid of the fatty foods in your diet.

Fatty food is a horrible choice, no matter how you look at it. It can be partially responsible for weight gain, high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels and now we realize it can be responsible for diabetes as well. Snacking from time to time won't make the disease happen. Having poor eating habits on a regular basis, however, could be the major determine factor between being healthy and being a diabetic.

Diabetes can happen for a number of controllable and uncontrollable reasons. Causes, such as genetics, gender and heredity are things you have absolutely no control over. Other factors, like high blood pressure or diet are things that you can totally manage on your own. One of the most excellent ways to attempt to keep the diabetes causes from getting the better of you is to maintain the best health possible. Every little decision, like what you snack on in the afternoons can be a major factor in whether or not you come down with diabetes. Be sure to maintain your healthiness as best you can and hopefully you'll be just fine with nothing to stress over.
